Peer Review

My partner, Katie Baker, and myself worked really well together. We didn't have any problems and I feel as though we did a really good job.

At first designing our looks we were very much in decided on what we wanted to do, we showed each other what we thought we wanted to do and spoke out how we would do them. When we needed to do our design practice we were both really organised and Katie knew what she wanted as did I.

I feel as though she was very organised, put a lot of thought in to the design she wanted and had all the extra things I needed to create the design.

In the practice sessions we got on really well, she told me how she wanted it to look, where the little details were going to be and what to use. I had a full list of products but we used a paper doily to create the lace look on the forehead and down the side of the hair line.

Taking the images and creating the look on the final day went really well. I knew exactly what I was doing and how I needed to alter the practice sessions to make it the best look I could.

Katie was really helpful when designing her looks, she was very organised, on time and I didn't need to ask her more than once for the designs.

I think we worked together really well, helped each other out when we needed it and I followed her guidance on how she wanted to look.

I hope Katie feels like I did the best I could when I was doing her design and I hope she was pleased with the outcome of the look. I would definitely work with her again as I feel she is a very good make up artist and we get along really well.

Skin Conditions

On the face clients can some times have skin conditions of diseases, it's really important that you can tell what these are and identify then before you start so you don't put the client or yourself at risk.

Three conditions are -

Conjunctivitis
This is a contagious eye infection, the eye will be red and swollen and will have a gooey discharge coming from the tear duct of the eye. Also when the client wakes up from sleeping the eye may be stuck together. If the clients eyes look red ask them if there okay and if they have conjunctivitis then do not put any make up on the area.
This will infect your make up and your brushes and could make the eye a lot worse. It needs time to get better so no make up for at least 5 days.

Psoriasis
This is a skin condition where the skin cells over produce and it creates dry patches on the skin. It can be in the hair line too or on the face. It can be quite itchy and red and can even crack the skin in some cases.
Make up can sometimes irritate the skin so applying none or products for sensitive skin would be the best thing to do in this case.

Coldsaw
These will appear around the mouth area and can be contagious. They are red blisters and can be painful too, there are a lot of treatments out there to help get them to heal quicker but they usually last 7-10 days.
Do not apply any make up on the area or even on the client as you do not want to put yourself at risk of catching it or passing it on to other people.

Elizabethan Make-Up Look

Today I created an original Elizabethan make up look, the pale face, red lips and cheeks and hardly any eye brows with white eyelashes. They used to have white skin to show how superior they are to others, the very high eye brows and hair line making the eyes and fore head look bigger shows 'intelligence' and the red lips were a sign of wealth too.

Health and safety
I followed all health and safety precautions before taking out this task, I did this look on myself so I know I am not allergic to any products and I don't wear eye contacts.

What I used
- Illamasqua matt primer
- Kryolan supra colours
- Illamasqua loose powder
- Kryolan blush palette
- Brushes
- Powder puff
- Spatulas
- Cleanser and toner
- Cotton pads and buds
- Disposable mascara wand

What I did
1. I cleansed my skin to remove any make up and dirt from the face and made sure I removed all my mascara from the very roots of my eye lashes.
2. I then primed the skin using the Illamasqua matt primer, on the face and down the neck.
3. I used a spatula to get the white supra colour on to the back of my hand and I buffed this in to the skin, down the neck and the ears until I was happy with the density of colour on the skin.
4. When I had finished buffing the white I used the Illamasqua loose powder to set the white all over the face, neck and ears.
5. I used the white again on a mascara wand to get the eye brows nice and white and also on the lashes, making sure I got right in to the root so you cant see any dark.
6. Once I was happy with the coverage on the lashes and the brows I moved on to the lips. I used the dark red supra colour with an angled brush to get a precise line on the lips.
7. Using an angled fluffy brush I used the red out the Kryolan blusher palette to create the apples of the cheeks red.

This was the look finished it was fairly easy to create as there isn't too much to an Elizabethan style.
This is the finished look -

Reflection
I'm happy with how this look came out on me as I feel as though I did a good job blending the white out, getting it all down the neck as even as the face and on the ears too. I like how the eye brows and the eye lashes came out as the white look, looks very strange but very effective to a make up look.
I am getting better at applying lip stick with a lip brush as I find it much easier as it is more precise than a lip liner.

I don't feel as though I am unhappy with anything that I did today, the only thing I would change was the size of the brush I used to apply the white on to the skin. I used a small-ish buffing brush when I could have used a bigger one to apply the product quicker and it could possibly buff it out easier too.

Overall, I am very happy with how my Elizabethan look turned out, I liked the look as it was very different to anything I have done before but I liked the out come. I liked learning how to apply the Supra colours on to the eye brows and the eye lashes too as that gives a really good effect to a make up look.

Final Design On My Partner

Today I did my final assessment on my partner by producing her make up design on her. I think it went really, really well and I was really pleased with the out come of the design.

I followed all health and safety precautions before and throughout the make up application.
I asked my client if she was allergic to anything or wore contacts and she answered no to both questions.

What I used
MAC Foundation
Illamsqua Matt primer
Illamasqua loose powder
Kryolan blusher palette
Supra colour
Kryolan Brights palette
Illamasqua Liqued Metals palette
Spatula
Powder sponge
Cotton pads
Cleanser and toner
Disposable mascara wands
Lace pattern
Brushes

What I did
1. I started off by cleansing the skin and toning it, I removed all the make up and dirt from the skin preparing it for the make up application.
2. Using a flat foundation brush I then applied the Illamsqua Matt primer on all over the skin and on to the neck to prime the skin.
3. After the primer had set I then used a MAC foundation on the skin as a base to create the perfect skin.
4. I didn't use any concealer on the face so I went straight in to powdering the face over the foundation using the Illamasqua loose powder.
5. Using the red in the blusher palette, I got a big fluffy bronzing brush and applied the red all across the hair line fading it as it went down on to the forehead. I went down the sides of the hair line too down to the cheek bones and on to the cheekbones creating a contoured look.
6. Once the red was at the correct intensity, I got the lace pattern and the white Supra colour and stippled the lace pattern on to the forehead and temples down to the cheekbones. I did it by holding the lace pattern on the head where I wanted to print it and make sure I held it still, using a stiff brush I got a greater colour pay off so the white Supra colour was really intense over the red.
7. once I had got the lace in the right places and was even both sides I used my finger to go around the edges to soften and smudge it in to the skin so it looks like it has faded in to the skin.
8. On to the eyes, I applied an orange supra colour base on the eye lids, over than I used a bright orange from the brights palette on the outer side of the eye and the lighter orange in the inner side of the eye. I blended the colours out using a fluffy brush with the two yellow and mustard shades in the brights palette and those colours went right up to the eye brow.
9. Once everything was blended on the outer corner of the eye I applied the copper colours from the Illamasqua liquid metals palette and the gold on the inner corner and the brow bone.
10. Getting some white supra colour on the back of my hand I used a disposable mascara wand to apple the white on to the eye brows getting in all the hairs and I used a new one for the eye lashes to make them white too.
11. Moving on to the lips, using a flat angled brush I got some of the copper again from the Illamasqua liquid metals palette and applied that all over the lips and in the centre on the lips I dabbed on some of the gold.

That was the make up complete and this is the final look

Reflection
I really liked how the design came out for the final time. I did make a few changes to what I did on this design as opposed to the times I have practiced this look.
My partner brought in her own foundation this time, we used a MAC foundation rather than the Make up Forever foundation which we used to practice with. This was a better foundation on my model as it gave more of a better coverage and base, the colour was a perfect match to the fake tan my model had on and because it was a better coverage, I didn't need to put too much work in to it as it was a better foundation.
I also changed the way i did the lace transfer print on the forehead. I did more red powder as the base to make the white stand out more. But I also stippled more of the white on to the lace transfer to make it even whiter. I wanted the pattern to really be seen so making sure I had enough product on the brush to get the effect I wanted was crucial.
I didn't change or adapt anything else on the design or the application as this wasn't my design any way, but I did change that one thing and my partner brought the other foundation too. Those were the only adaptions.

The thing I wasn't happy with was when I was transferring the lace on to the skin I got the hair caught in there too. So the hair had a little whit patch right at the front on the hair, I tried my best to smudge it and remove it from the hair but to be honest you can't really see it and it blends in with the design too.

Overall,  I am very pleased with the outcome of my design and I hope my parter is too. I really like how the lace stands off from the red and the golden, orange and bronzed eyes are really effective and glory under the light.
Im really pleased with the outcome and I would definitely do it again and not change anything about how I applied the design.
