My Final Design

For my final design my partner did my make up look in me by following my face chart and her previous practice to get my make up look perfect.

She did everything the same as what she did in the practice session following all health and safety precautions.

This is the final outcome of the look.

I feel like that she did really well to produce my make up look just how I wanted it. She was very confident and knew what she was doing which is a good thing, I felt like I could trust her to do what I wanted without telling her.

There wasn't anything I was unhappy with about the design of the outcome of it.

My partner did very well, was very professional and she did a great job - I would have been a very satisfied client.

Films and Actors Who Portrayed Elizabeth

There are plenty of films and programmes out there that have real facts based on Queen Elizabeth, here are a few different films and programmes which I found that are based on Elizabeth. I have watched some of them but not all of them. I do find these programmes interesting but then I also find them repetitive when it is based on the same person. I suppose they can only use real life events to go on so they will all go on the same thing.

Elizabeth I - Channel 4
This programme is based on Queen Elizabeth, who is played by Helen Mirren. She portrays the Queen in her later years with many more actors. She suits the character so much as she is representing her later years she looks the part and does a good job of being the Queen. This one was made in 2005 and played on Channel 4, it is still available to watch online too.
Elizabeth - 1998
The films is based on Queen Elizabeth from when she was a child to growing up and dealing with her new responsibilities as being the Queen. The main actor who plays Elizabeth is Cate Blanchett, she does a great job of being the stern Queen from that era and portrays her perfectly, maybe this is why she was chosen to play her again in the follow up film. The film was nominated for numerous awards and won an Oscar.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - 2007
Again, Cate Blanchett portrays the Queen, the film is the follow up from Elizabeth and it shows us her troubles, events and love events through the later years of her life. This is also a great film just like the first one as they are the same characters its easier to follow and remember what happened in the first one. I really like how they have used Cate Blanchett in this film too as she did a really good job getting into character in the last film I think she did great. The film also won an Oscar, had loads on nominations and some of those too.

Tudor Cosmetics and Dangers

In the Tudor era there was many different things people used on their face, hair, teeth and body to enhance them self and their features. Queen Elizabeth is a prime example - the white skin, the rose cheeks and red lips, they were all 'fake' by using cosmetics.
One big thing was the white skin, every one wanted to be really pale, is Elizabeth was pale they wanted to be pale.
Having red lips and red cheeks was also one thing in fashion back then, having no eye brows or very round ones to make the fore head appear larger was too and having red hair.

White Skin
Woman wanted to be fair skinned back in the Elizabethan times, as having fair skin was a sign of wealth. If you was a worker you would be outside and you would get a tan from the sun but, rich people didn't work and didn't really go outside so they would be pale.

A recipe known for making the skin whiter and fair -
'Wash they face with Rosemary boyled in white wine, and thou shalt be fair'
This is just to make the face fairer, I have no idea how this worked but it must have if woman were using it to get the paler complexion they wanted.

Ceruse, was also a very he cosmetic back then. This made the face paler by using the two man ingredients 'White lead and vinegar'.

It was very poisonous on the skin making it crack, blister and even caused hair loss. The mixture was very white and they rubbing it all over the skin which was visible, the face, neck, chest and hands.
Queen Elizabeths face over time became cracked and she used everything she could get her hand onto keep the youthful look. A lot of woman used this minute on their face and it could even could have caused Elizabeths death.

Red Lips
Having red lips and red cheeks were all the craze against the pale white skin. There was plenty of different receipes to get the perfect red for the lips and cheeks but these are two that I have found.

Recipe for fucus (red facepaint): "Mix Cochineal with the white of hard-boiled egs, the milk of green figs, plume alum, and gum arabic."
Recipe for fucus: "steep brasil well in water for two days and then mix it with two ounces of fish glue that hath itself been steeped in white wine for five or six days."
Milton Carrol, The Elizabethan Woman

Red Hair
Red or golden hair is what everyone wanted and some of the recipes that were made even made women bald so wearing wigs and head pieces were worn instead. Putting things on the hair such as urine was used (gross) to get the hair lighter.
"To make the hair yellow as golde. Take the rine or scrapings of Rubarbe, and stiepe it in white wine, or in cleere lie; and after you have washed your head with it, you shall weatte your hairs with a Spoonge or some other cloth, and let them drie by the fire, or in the sunne; after this weatte them and drie them againe."
Giovanni Ruscelli (Alessio), The secretes of reverende maister Alexis of Piemount, 1568

Mouth Wash
Mouthwashes were created to
'keep your teeth white and uncorrupt, and also have a sweet breath'
You would have to 'pick and rub your teeth', but firstly wash your mouth when you have eaten and sleep with your mouth just open and in the morning spit out. Using the cloth
'rub your teeth well within and without to take away the fumositie of the maenad  the yellowness of the teeth'
A mouthwash recipe included ingredients such as -
Half a glass of vinegar and as much of the water of the masticke tree, of rosemarie, mire, bole, arkmoniake, dragons herb, roche aloe of each of them an ounce and of fountain water three glassfulls; mingle all well together, adnd let it boil with a final fire, adding to it half a pound of honey, and taking away the scum on it, then put in a little bengwine, and when it hath sodden a quarter of an hour, take it from the fire, and keep it in a plane bottle and wash your teeth therewithall.'

To me, I would never use anything like that in my mouth as a mouthwash but in those days making up mixtures and recipes was the norm to create new exciting things and cosmetics for people who would pay for them, even if they didn't work or were very dangerous to peoples health.

All these recipes and ingredients that were used in the Elizabethan era are crazy to me and today I would never use any of these on my face or hair or in my mouth. At the time I suppose they probably seemed like the did the job but with more technology and knowledge our products are much more safer for us.

Practicing My Partners Design

Today I got to see my partners design and I also got to practice the look on her too.

I got all the equipment out ready and the products I need to complete the make up look, by going by her design - she has listed the products on there. On the design there is a lace print on the fore head going down to the cheek bones, so my partner supplied me with the lace for me to print it on to her face.

I started by cleansing the skin removing all the make up and dirt from the skin and toning after wards.
I applied the Illamasqua matt primer all over the skin to prepare the skin for the make up.

I looked at my partners design and started off by using a base on the skin with the foundation that matched her skin tone, I blended it in all over her face and neck giving a perfect base to the look.
Once that was completed I used the Illamasqua loose powder all over the skin to set the base.

On the design she has a red fore head which blends in down the fore head and down the sides of the face, it also goes down on to the cheek bones like a contour.
I used the red out of the Kryolan blush palette and I blended it in all over the fore head, down the sides of the face and on to the cheek bones. I asked my partner how dense she wanted the colour to be, if she wanted it really red or just a soft glow of it and she wanted it quite intense.
I blended the red over the cheek bones too which added structure to the face also.

Over the red, I used a flat brush to stipple the white out of the Supra colour palette to create the lace look on the fore head, also going down the temples and stopping on the cheek bones. On the fore head it came down a little bit more to a point in the middle which had a really nice effect.

Using the same brush I used the white to high light the cheek bones, down the nose, just above the brows and on the chin. Then I moved on to the eye brows, using the same white Supra colour and a disposable mascara wand to go through the eye brows to make them white too.

On the eyes, I used the bright orange Supra colour as a base to get the brightness she wanted and I put the orange out of the Kryolan brights palette over the Supra colour. I blended the lighter orange in to the crease and then the yellow and mustard colour up to the eye brows. this gave a really nice blended effect on the eyes which I really liked. Over those colours, I got the Illamasqua palette with the gold and copper colour in, I used the copper colour on the outer edge/corner of the eyes and the colour towards the centre and inner corners of the eyes and a little gold on the brow bone too.
On the eye lashes, using a disposable mascara wand I used the white Supra colour to make the lashes go white.

On the lips to create a really nice metallic look I used the copper colour I used on the eyes and in the centre of the lips I used the gold too.

This was the finished look.
I was really happy with how the look came out as I was thinking I wouldn't be able to do it how she wanted it. She said it was exactly what she wanted and I did a really good job.
I was so happy with the out come as I had never done something like this, used a red base on the fore head and stippled a lace design, or used so many different products and colours on the eyes. The whole look was really effective and it looked really good too.

The only thing I would change is the whiteness of the lace, I would do it more whiter and thicker so it stands out a bit more off the red, or I could do the red a less brighter. I think we both made the decision that it would look more effective if we did it more whiter.
I loved the eyes I was really pleased with them and the lips too, the looked really good and I love the products she chose to use too.

Elizabeth (1998)

Elizabeth is an outstanding film portraying how it was in the Elizabthan times, the sets, the make up, the hair and the costume designing really gives you a feel for how it was back in those days.

In the film we can see how Elizabeth grew from a young, simple girl into a woman who had to put on this hard face to the public and her encounters. She uses hair designing and make up to disguise who she really is, at the beginning of the film she has long frizzy hair down her back and a simple blue dress on, showing she was just a regular girl. Nothing fancy or impressive to show her any importance.
As the film went on she slowly added jewels and accessories to her hair, starting off with a simple ribbon through the back up do of the frizzy curls, to a huge amount of flowers, leaves and jewels added through her top piece of hair.
The frizzy curls got smoothed out to lovely waves going down her back at her coronation perfect for a crowning look with her high hair line showing her full face.
Throughout the film, the more important Elizabeth becomes, she has more money, more power and with that an image to uphold towards other woman showing just how powerful she really is. Adding hats and even wigs at the end of the film shows how wealthy she was as not every one in those days was rich enough to wear hats and wigs. As she got older her hair started to thin

'With middle age, Elizabeth's hair started to decrease in quantity and lost its youthful
fiery glow. loss of colour could be replaced by dye, but its poor quality made it difficult to
dress into the fashionable curled style'

She resorted to wearing wigs and having them specially made for her as she got older her hair was thinning and the colour was becoming dull
'it is recorded that she purchased six heads of hair, twelve yards of hair curl and a hundred other devices made of hair'

I really like how she was this beautiful woman at the start, she was sweet and innocent and was plunged into a world where she had to grow up and make huge decisions so quickly. For a young woman it must have been really hard to give the people what they want and knowing what to do.
I like how the hair designing was accurate to Elizabeth, if you look at portraits of her they have been very well re created with the added jewels and accessories.
At the end of the film she decides to cut all her hair off and wear a wig, as she walked out everyone was in awe of the Queen. She showed just how powerful she was, changing her whole look to someone nearly unrecognisable. I like how she did that to show to everyone 'I am the most powerful person in the country', her white skin, red hair, red cheeks and lips was all the craze back then but her maids were upset dressing the Queen as she went through this huge transformation.

In the film she is portrayed at the beginning to have committed some sort of crime towards the reigning Queen, Elizabeth is very sweet and kind, gentle looking and sympathetic. We warm to her at the start as she has been made out to look like a victim which she very much isn't.
At the coronation where she is crowned the new Queen of England, her whole look about her changes. She's very hard faced and stern looking showing no kindness. I like how she has these different personalities for different events, it shows she can be a Queen to her people by making tough decisions and making people think not to disobey her.
I then like how she has fun and laughs and smiles with her close ones, she still has fun and enjoys herself even though she has a reputation to uphold. Underneath that hard face of hers was still a young woman who wanted to go dancing and enjoy herself.

'it is understood that she had her face painted to distance herself from her subjects by carving herself out as a fearless icon, hidden behind a cosmetic mask'

"I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too" – Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth's make up during the film never really changes dramatically too much, she has perfect skin from the beginning but nothing on it to make her look extremely pale. I noticed her skin changed slightly in colour at her coronation, she was very pale, very white and ill looking.
In her downtime she never really seemed to have any make up on but definitely during her important events she would make sure she looked the part.
I like how the Elizabthen's started off a make up trend, even today if one celebrity is wearing it everyone wants it.
For example, Kate Middleton's hair style was very popular in the 25-40 age group, wanting long, thick, chocolate brown locks. Or a more modern style icon such as Kylie Jenner and her lips, everyone wants a matt brown pout like hers.
It was a little different back then everyone wanted to be pale and angelic where as now we like to be sun kissed and bronzed.

The portrayal of Elizabeth seems to be very accurate, she was said to me a very nice looking lady, she would look after her people but still be the strong one when needed to be. All of the events that happened throughout the film were relevant to history too. Elizabeth was a very young and youthful looking lady, have angelic soft skin or that's what every one thought at the time.

'not long before her death, she had a great apprehension of her own age and declination by
seeing her face, then lean and full of wrinkles, truly represented to her in a glass'

The designer had definitely adapted the look for a contemporary audience by changing the colouring of the dresses and the scenes, it was very bright and beautiful, there was lots of lighting and there had to be a minimal amount of make up in the actors skin as they were filming. Cate Blanchett does a very, very good job of acting out as Queen Elizabeth too, she portrays the character perfectly, beautiful and precious yet stern and fierce.

Final Design Practice

In lesson today my partner practiced my make up look on me and she did a really good job.

She looked at my design and my pictures, got all the make up out which was listed and then went straight in to cleansing my face.
She asked me a few questions about how i would like it and how i did it and if she can do it differently. i let her do what she wanted in what ever way she found easier to do.

She started the same as me applying the foundation, then doing the white base in the centre of my nose and moved it outwards in to a heart shape. Before she started the white she used a small brush and outlined where she wanted the heart to go.
After she filled in the heart and whitened the eye brows she set it all with the loose powder and moved on to the eyes. Applying the gold Illamasqua on the lids and under the lash line and blended it out slightly. She then applied the black mascara on to the eye lashes too.
On to the rest of the face she applied the bronzer on the fore head to make the heart stand out more, I told her I wanted it quite dark at the top of the heart and blending down the sides of the face on to the cheek bones and she did it to the right darkness which I wanted.
Once she had finished with the bronzer, she over drew my lips slightly and filled them in with the red Supra colour. Then she got the gold colour and did the cracks on my lips whilst I was pressing my lips together.

This was the finished look
I was really pleased with how it came out it looks just like my design and how I created it on myself.
I think she did a really good job because some times it is hard to do something some one else has done and do it exactly how they want it. But she did it perfectly, I was really happy with all the aspects of the make up, the application, the out come and the confidence she had in doing what I wanted.

Next time for the final assessment I think she will be more confident and now she knows what she is doing she will be able to get on and do it even better than she did in the practice run.

My Practice Design

I decided to practice the look on myself too see what it would look like, I wanted to see how the whole look would look on the face all together and if it looked good.

I used the products listed on the face chart.

I firstly cleansed and toned my skin to remove any make up off my face. I then primed the skin with the matt primer
I applied the foundation all over my face leaving the eye areas out and the nose and they are going to be white. One the foundation was done, I put the white foundation in the centre of the nose and worked it out around the eyes to the lip of the lip in to a heart shape.
When I had enough white coverage I then used the Supra colour in white to cover the brows over so they were white too.
Once everything was to how I wanted it I set the whole face with the loose powder.
Then I went on to the eyes using the gold Supra colour all over the lids and then I changed to the Illamasqua gold as I liked that consistency better. I put it all over the lids and under the bottom lash line and in the inner corners of the eyes too.
I added black mascara as I wanted them to be quite defined and add a little modern make up to the look.
On the forehead I used a bronzer to make the heart shape more defined around the top of the head, I worked the bronzer down the sides of the heart and down on to the cheeks to define them too.
Once I was happy with the depth of colour of the bronzer as i want it quite strong on the fore heard I moved on to the lips.
I used an angled brush to get the perfect line and slightly over drew them on the top lip with the red Supra colour.
To get the cracked effect on the lips I pressed my lips together to make them really small looking and patted the gold Supra colour over the top of the red.

This was my look completed, I was really happy how it looked, it has a few different details to the look and when they all come together it looked really good. I was really happy with the outcome of the look and I tried different products such as the gold Illamsqua colour and the Supra colours on the eyes.
I loved the darker bronzer on the fore hear to make the heart stand out on the face and the gold lids add a little edge to the look too.

When my partner does my make up look I'm sure she will be able to follow my design easily as it isn't that complicated and I think she will be able to do it with no struggle.

My Chosen Design

My chosen design is my fourth look. I think it is different and shows Lettice Knollys really well.

I like how I have used the heart on the face to show her love and it is also very Elizabethan as their usually have their hair in a heart shape.
The eye brows and lips are also Elizabethan as the brows are very nearly invisible and the lips are red and gold - both royal colours.
The heart is contoured round by using bronzer on the face too really show off the heart on the face. The gold eye lids show she was royalty, saw a lot of things behind the scenes not a lot of other people saw and she was also the Queens cousin.

For this look I will have the hair all back off the face but it will be put in to a modern Beyoncé quiff on the front of the hair and the rest of the hair will go down the back. This hair style is very modern as it is inspired by Beyoncé but Elizabethans also had all their hair off the face too.

My inspiration for this look I got from this image - it made me think about my character and how I can change it to fit what I want my look to be like.

Design 4

My final design is based on her love for Robert Dudley, her children and her ex husbands.
My brainstorm shows the ideas for my design, I wanted to create something different to my other designs and so I came up with this idea.

The look is very different, I will have a paler foundation as a base on the outer edges of my face and my chin/jaw area. In the centre of my face in a heart shape I will have a white heart shape going round the eyes and nose, ending the bottom of the heart at the top of the lips. The brows will also be white so they blend in with the heart, Elizabethans used to have really thin eye brows any way so I wanted to cover those up as they were hardly noticeable anyway. The heart represents the love she has for Robert Dudley, her children, her other lovers and her family. She was full of love but she just made a few bad decisions in life.
The eye lips and around the eyes will be gold, this shows she is quite rich and she was royalty. The Queens cousin and she married very important men too.
The lips are red as a typical Elizabethan look but it has cracked gold on the top as she was royally but she fell out with the Queen and that made cracks in her relationship and her family.

I really like this look, it is my favourite out of all my designs because I think it really presents who she was, she was beautiful, full of love, she was royalty, was an important lady as she was related to the queen. Also she made a few bad decisions so the cracked gold on the lips gives a little edge to the look which I really like.
I have a few Elizabethan features in there such as the brows which are nearly invisible, the red lips and there are pale bits on the face like the heart. I got inspiration from an image that has a heart on the face and I thought about how I could change that in to something Elizabethan.

Design 2

My second design is based on her being very modernised as I would see her today but with some Elizabethan feel to it still.

My brainstorm shows how I want her to look using all the modern techniques to enhance her features.

I want to keep her face quite pale as that represents her, but I will contour the face to enhance the cheek bones, nose and chin. Then I will highlight the high points on the face too.
She will have soft brown contoured eyes with a winged liner and some lashes on the outer edges of the eyes. The winged liner gives a flirty look to the eyes which she was very flirty with men, the lips will be slightly over drawn with a red tint to them too.

All the products are listed on the face chart and this is what I would like the make up to look like.

I have chosen this design because she was a very flirty woman, she had three husbands, she was prettier than Elizabeth, got a lot of compliments so I can see her being quite flirty. The longer lashes, wined liner and the contoured face gives a flirty, pretty look which would suit her. Also, she will have some defined eye brows to frame the face, HD brows are so popular today and having the perfect shape and perfect products really frame the face and sets any look off.

I really like this look as I love a contoured face, winged liner, slightly over done lips and highlighted cheek bones. I would wear this look but not with the pale face and I think it represents a modernised Lettice Knollys.
The inspiration I got for this look is Kylie Jenner - a beautiful, young and stunning woman, I could picture Lettice being somethig like Kylie if she was in this era.

Design 3

My third design is based on a natural look - a no make up, make up look.

My brainstorm shows a little in between my first and second design. I wanted to use the first idea with a few aspects of the second one.

The list of products are listed on the design. I want to have a paled skin and the high lighted dewy skin from the first idea, but including the contoured face, a slight winged liner and neat brows.

I wanted to make a look that was very much like her with the pale face soft features but added a little modern twist in to it with a little winged liner and some soft pink lips. This would probably be her make up look if she was here in todays modern age. A very natural beautiful woman who just extenuates her beauty with a little make up.

I really like the look of this make up as it is still natural just has a little added features to it to add some sass. She was very beautiful to using make up to help bring out that beauty will be a really good look on her.
My inspiration for this look is J Lo - she has flawless skin, not over done make up but still beautiful make up for her age.

Sugar Skull

For Halloween we got to experiment and work with our kits to produce a Sugar Skull.

A brief history behind sugar skulls is it originates from Mexico, it's the celebration of Day of the Dead. It focuses on family's and friends all getting together to celebrate and think about the people they have lost and support the spiritual journey.

My inspiration for my sugar skull was a male who is wearing the traditional male sugar skull and a make up tutorial I found on YouTube.

Health and Safety
- follow all health and safety precautions
- be really careful around the eyes with glitter as if it gets in the eye it could be uncomfortable for the model

What I used
- Illamasqua Matt primer
- Illamasqua skin base in white
- Illamasqua loose powder
- Kryolan Supra colours
- Kryolan brights palette
- Mac glitter pot in gold
- brushes
- spatulas
- cotton buds
- cleanser
- toner

What I did
1. I prepped the skin by cleansing and removing any dirt off the face and then I toned. I didn't moisturise because sometimes the make up can slide about the face and not stay.
2. I used the Illamasqua Matt primer and the skin base in white mixed together all over the face to a full white coverage.
3. Once I got the coverage I wanted and it was even I used the loose powder all over to set the base.
4. On the eyes I drew around the eye sockets and drew out where I wanted the dark parts to go. I then filled them in going over the eye brow in black and down the sides of the socked but not underneath the bottom lash line.
5. Once I had got the shape right I went round the tops and sides with a flat round brush to get the petal look.
6. On the eye lid and under the eye I applied a purple eyeshadow from the brights palette and blended it all together.
7. Once I got the blend I moved on to the cheeks. Using a pale brown colour I darkened the jaw line. Then I drew out the bones in the cheeks and the mouth line.
8. Before I started on the mouth o blotted purple shadow which I used on the eyes over the mouth.
9. Using the supra colour I filled in the bones, the mouth line and the teeth on the face
10. I got a fluffy blending brush and blended some dark around the jaw to define it some more and added a cross into the centre of the brows/forehead
11. Once I was happy with my design and it looked neat I added some glitter under neath the lash line going down on to the cheeks using a damp brush

Reflection
I was really happy with the outcome of my sugar skull design. It was different to what other people have produced and I wanted to be a little different. I also chose a male to be my model which isn't what anyone else has done.

I was happy with the White base and all the little details which I added to my design such as the purple blotted shadow behind the mouth and the cross on the forehead.

The only thing I am disappointed on is the glitter in the pictures doesn't look as effective as it should do in person.
Also if I had to do it again I would change the colour shadow I used to a green or blue to make it stand out much more.

Overall, I am very happy with my sugar skull, I enjoyed creating something like this and it was even more fun because it was close to Halloween.
I love the look I created and extra little bits I added from my inspiration pictures to create something different.

Elizabethan Ladies In Waiting

For our final design I have to produce a makeup look which is based on an Elizabethan Lady in Waiting. A Lady in Waiting is some one who attends to the queen, I had a few woman which I could pick from but I decided to go with Lettice Knollys.

Her background stood out to me and I thought she would be a very interesting character because she married Queen Elizabeth's one true love - but she was also Queen Elizabeth's cousin!

Background

Lettice Knollys was the cousin to Queen Elizabeth, she was Anne Boleyn's sisters, daughter. Her father was Sir Francis Knollys, he was Treasurer to the Household to Queen Elizabeth and her mother was Catherine Carey, the daughter of the eldest sister of Anne Boleyn.
In her portraits she looks so much like the Queen with the red hair, pale skin, the outfit and pearls she was wearing, her look and her whole image seemed to replicate Queen Elizabeth.
Then I looked in to her more and I found out more about her, she wasn't like Queen Elizabeth at all. She had lovely porcelain skin, natural red/golden hair, much more beautiful than Elizabeth naturally and that is why Elizabeth always was a little jealous of her cousin. She was a very fashion conscience lady who must have looked after her image. A Spanish Ambassador de Silva wrote about Lettice in 1565 -
"one of the best-looking ladies ladies of the court."
Jenkins, Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Leicester. London: Phoenix Press, 1962. 124.

Queen Elizabeth was quick to let her cousin marry so she could have more of the attention back on to her, Lettice married Walter Devereux and they has 5 children together. Her husband was made Earl of Essex, so he had to go to Ireland - one tour as Lord Deputy and the second one as Earl Marshal of Ireland. Lettice was left at home with her children and there was soon rumours flying around that there was flirtatious acts going on between her and Robert Dudley.

They were soon caught out and her husbands sudden death made every one think it was a little plan of theirs to kill him off so they could be together. Queen Elizabeth was not happy they her one true love was wanting to be with her cousin, so they secretly got married. About a year later a French Ambassador told the Queen about the secret marriage and they were both told to retire. Robert was restored a year later but Elizabeth never forgave her cousin and only ever saw her once after that. Queen Elizabeth would avoid going to events if her cousin was going to be there and she didn't want to meet up with her cousin. It sounds like an Elizabeth soap which could be on TV!

Robert and Lettice had a happy life together and were so in love, when Robert died he left everything to Lettice but the Queen wasn't happy so she made her  sell some of the estates she had, basically wanted her to be left with nothing - which is maybe how she felt when she found out they both got married.

A year later though Lettice got married again, to one of her sons friends Sir Christopher Blout. There was family drama going on through their marriage, which ended up in the death of that husband too!

Since then, there was no record of what Lettice was doing apart from retiring in Drayton Bassett, she then died on Christmas morning in 1634 at a good old age of 94. The cutest part about her sad ending is that she was then buried next to her beloved Robert Dudley.

My View

I think that Lettice is a lady who falls in to difficult situations, you cant help who you fall in love with. She was very loyal to her family as she wanted to tell Elizabeth about her and Dudley but she couldn't, then when she did find out she asked to meet a few times but Elizabeth didn't want to. You can tell she was a very loving person, she loved Dudley so much and her children.

She was a very naturally beautiful woman, she was very into fashion so she must have kept herself up to date with all the fashion trends back then.
If we was in todays society I can see her being a massive style icon, doing her own thing, wearing what she wants, dating who she wants and doing what she wants. A powerful woman, even if people hate her she will try move on with her life and do what she can to put things right.

I can see her make up being flawless, her skin being smooth and silky soft. Her brows would be perfect, her lips would be full and her eye make up would either be natural with minimal make up or fierce and striking.

Either way she would look just as beautiful, I could see her looking like or getting inspiration from the likes of Kylie Jenner, Michelle Keegan or Cheryl Cole. They all have their own individual style, they set trends and people follow them. If Lettice was alive now I think she wouldn't be a follower she would be one of the trend setters.

Eyes, Brows and Lips

When applying make up on the eyes there are ways of enhancing the natural shape to make the eyes look wider and stand out more. Also with brows to get a subtle definition to them and the lips to get the perfect application.

Eyes
There are all sort of different eye shapes and knowing how to enhance them to make them even more beautiful is really easy once you know how.
Just by using a light and a dark colour you can make them really pop and stand out.

On my client she had wide eyes, to make them look closer together and make them pop I added the darker colour into the inner corners of the eyes.

Health and Safety
Follow all health and safety procedures
Don't double dip into any products, scrape the product out of the shadow palette into the lid and when finished with wipe over the lid with alcohol to clean and remove any germs.

What I used
Illamasqua satin Primer
Kryolan Foundation palette
Kryolan Concealer palette
Illamasqua loose Powder
Mac cool palette
Mascara
Mascara wands
Lash curlers
Brushes
Kryolan Lipstick palette
Tissues
Spatulas
Pads

What I did
1. I prepped the skin by using my Illamasqua matt primer all over the face and eyes to give the look a matt finish
2. Using the foundation palette I got the right colour for my models skin and applied it all over the face.
3. I then concealed the areas which were needed to be concealed like the inner corners of the eyes where it's darker, a little under the eyes, down side of the nostrils, the corners of the mouth, even the chin could be concealed if needed.
4. Using the powder pads I got my illamasqua loose powder and applied that all over the face to set the foundation in place, but I applied a thicker layer underneath the eyes so it leaves a powdered effect underneath. This will help with your fall out from the eyeshadow, as you can just swipe it all off after you've finished applying the eye shadow.
5. Once you are on the eye shadow get a tissue or cotton pad and hold the skin up on the brow bone, this will let you get into the crease and down to the lash line easier.
6. Now on the eyes, I used my MAC cool palette, I started with the lighted colour first this keeps the look cleaner. I applied it mainly on the eye lid and under the lower lash line.
7. With a darker colour I applied and blended into the inner corners of the eyes, the darker colour will make the eyes seem they are closer together.
8. When the shadow is blended and looks good I applied a coat of mascara using my mascara wand and curled the lashes straight after so they will set in that shape I want them to. You can use the curlers after or before using the mascara, I got my model to look straight ahead and applied the mascara on top of the lashes and then underneath. After a few minutes I got her to look up so I could do her bottom lashes.
9. This is the make up look on the eyes finished, if there is any mascara that has caught the skin wait till it has fully dried and then wipe it off with a cotton bud.

Eye brows
Using the same products as the eyes, shaping and adding a little definition to the eye brows frames the face and makes the face look more put together.

My model had thick dark eye brows so I didn't have to do much to her eye brows as they were already looking perfect.

1. Brush the brows into shape so you can see where you may need to apply more product to fill in gaps
2. Using an angled brush lightly go over the brow hairs to add a bit of colour but don't touch the skin with the product
3. Once the brows look more defined brush through them again

Lips
When lining the lips get a colour which is very close or the same shade as the lipstick you are going to use. When you use a pencil make sure it is clean and use an angles brush when applying the lipstick to get the perfect straight edge.

1. Apply a lip liner if you are using one
2. Scrape out some lip stick from the Kryolan lipstick palette and sweep the brush through the colour to get it in all the brush hairs.
3. I asked my model to stretch her lips open so I can get in all the creases and swept the brush backwards and forwards over the lips.
4. Using the edge of the brush to get a neat line all the way round the lips including the corners of them.
5. Once applied onto the bottom and top lip, I blotted the lips on to a tissue.
6. Once the lips have been blotted apply more lipstick and blot once more, to get a softer looking finish you can add the loose powder to the lips too.

Always check the teeth to make sure there is no lipstick on them too

Reflection
I really liked looking at the different eye shapes and seeing what looks are best to create on those shapes. It was a little difficult to find the right one for my model at first but once you have looked a good few times you soon realise which one will best suit.
I also liked doing the lips too as I love wearing lipstick myself, learning that you need to blot and re apply at least twice maybe three times was new to me. It makes the lipstick last much longer and gives a more intense colour too.

I feel like I need more practice on applying lipstick on other people as it is a little tricky getting such a nice neat line with a darker colour but I did the best I could do with it being my first go on a model.
I liked how we got taught to do eyebrows just a slight colour on the hairs but I like mine more intense and I use the product on my skin under the brow hairs using an angled brush too. I think they looked nice and natural but I do prefer them to be more defined.

Overall, it was really interesting learning about eye shapes and how to create looks to enhance them, creating soft brows was interesting and also applying lipstick correctly was very useful too.

Monochromatic, Analogous and Complementary Face Charts

I produced three face charts which all had different ideas and different looks to them. I did three different ones by using a monochromatic, analogous and complementary look.

Monochromatic

This is where you use the same colour in different tones.

I chose orange as its a very warm colour and it would look really nice on a white complexion.
The face would be all white and powdered so it looks smooth and soft, using the Illamasqua skin base foundation in white and the Illamasqua loose powder
The eyes would have Mandarin on the eye lids from the Kryolan Brights palette, and to blend the colour out I would use AB13 from the same pallete.
On the cheeks to define those I would use the mandarin colour again to keep in with the same look.
On the lips I would use the Supra colour in the bright orange colour.

I really like this look as the one colour theme would look so nice on a pale skin.

Analogous
This is where you use two colours which are next to each other on the colour wheel.

This look will also be on a pale skin complexion but using the Illamasqua skin base in white all over the face and neck, and then setting it to give a smooth even look with the Illamasqua loose powder.
I chose the blue and purple because I really like cool colours when they work next to each other.
On the lid I used AB6 on the lid which is a nice dark blue shade to give the eye some depth, then around that and blending the blue in, I used AB22 which is a nice shade of pinky purple. I brought the shadow right out to the temples for a different look and added white eye liner too for a funky edge to the look. The white eye liner I used the White in the Supra colours palette.
On the lips I used the dark blue shade on the liner and the outer edge of the lips and on the centre of the lips I used the purple shade, both these colours are in the Supra palette.

This look is so edgy and cool I wouldn't ever wear it myself unless it was for a certain brief or cat walk, but I'm pleased with this look as its very different to anything I've seen before.

Complementary

These colours are both from opposite sides of the colour wheel and so they complement each other on the face.
This more edgy look I created with the Brights palette. Firstly I would use the Illamasqua skin base foundation in white all over and then I would powder using the Illamasqua loose powder. On the face to get the green look I used  H21 in the Brights palette, I would contour the cheeks with this colour adding more there to get more of a defined cheek bone, I would then brush over most of the skin to get the green look and leave just under the eyes, down the nose, the chin and the bottom of the forehead more white so it looks like its been highlighted. On the eye brows I would fill the brows in with H19 a darker shade of green to give them more definition. On the eyes I used  the shade SM in the Brights palette which is a red shade, I would blend it out to the crease and underneath and around the eyes. Under the bottom lash line I would do a red liner with the dark red in the Supra palette and I would also use that colour on the lips too.

I like this look as it so very different using the green on the face to get the definition on it instead of just a normal powder. I also like the liner that I did too it gives the look an edge and something different is brought to it too.

Reflection

I really liked making these looks because they are all different, all very colourful and I really enjoyed making them too.
I like the middle one the best the analogous look because I just think it is something totally different which I haven't seen before with the white eyeliner.

The only think I didn't like about creating these looks was it was hard to decide what colours to use and which ones I think would work the best. I wanted to create something totally different and so being creative and trying to produce something that I never had before was a struggle but once I did one I had the inspiration to carry on with the other two.

Overall, I loved creating these looks! I want to try them out on some one so I can see what they really look like on the face. They look good on paper but it could look totally different on some ones face.
